Merry Mabon!

A Merry Mabon to all!  Mabon is the Autumn Equinox, a day when the light and dark are equal, when day and night are equals with each other.

Mabon is kind of like Thanksgiving in that it's a time to get together with family and be thankful for what we have.  It's a time to look back over the past year and do inventory.  It's time to finish what needs finishing and to prepare for a time of rest as the year winds down.

Mabon is the second of three harvest festivals.  Lughnasadh, or Lammas, was the first while Samhain (Halloween or All Hallow's Eve) is the third.

Somehow I find Mabon much easier to celebrate within its meaning.  I think my ease may come from the fact that Mabon is not a "Hallmark holiday."  Samhain is also Halloween, and is actually quite fun as a witch, but is still highly romanticized by Corporate America.  Christmas is also a big one, and even though Yule doesn't fall on the 25th of December, its never far away around the 21st.  Sometimes we get caught up in the festivities and we let ourselves forget what the holiday is really about.  I don't have that problem with Mabon, because only Pagans celebrate it and it's not a mass-media holiday.  I can just sit back, relax, and enjoy my holiday for what it's really meant to be.


So, for Mabon, I'd like to leave my readers with a list of some things in my life I am thankful for.

• Having friends I can share my spirituality with
• My mom and dad, hearts still beating strong!
• Having a loving, caring, understanding husband

Fall in Florida

To be completely honest, there's really no such thing as the season of Fall in Florida.  Floridians make jokes about not having seasons, but it really can be true.  Last year north central Florida only got about 4 days of cold weather, and by "cold weather" I mean temperatures in the mid-high 60's.

The fact that we don't get Fall saddens me, especially since Fall is my absolute favorite season.  I've only seen the leaves change once, and it was because I went on vacation with a boyfriend in high school to Indiana simply to see the leaves change.  Let me tell you: it was absolutely beautiful!  I think if I'd grown up in a northern state I would've found Goddess a lot sooner than I did...
