Going Natural

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately.  Many of my friends know I've been dealing with some health problems lately, although I should be healthy as an ox like I've been all my life.  I shouldn't have the problems I'm having at the age of 22.

I've been seeing a chiropractor, my primary doctor, my gynecologist, and now I've been referred to a pulmonologist.  My chiropractor has helped immensely even though he hasn't actually cured anything.  He's got me on vitamins that have, for the most part, kept my symptoms at bay.

Anyway, I've created this post to talk about why I'm starting to lean towards natural products, as well as more natural ways of preparing food.



Recently, I learned that commercially sold deodorant has aluminum in it, and everywhere I look, people keep saying it's bad for you.  However, doing my own research, I've found plenty of sources like this one that say otherwise.  Apparently, researchers can't prove that aluminum causes Alzheimer's, just that there may be some correlation.  There are also rumors about aluminum in antiperspirants causing breast cancer.  I've found credible sources to point out that it hasn't been proven as well.

Even so, why would I want to rub aluminum on my armpits?

Also, my gynecologist has taken me off my birth control.  She wanted to put me back on the pill, but I haven't done well on the pill in the past, so we decided I'd try going without any kind of birth control for a few months and see how I fare.

The fact is, birth control is not natural for our bodies.  It manipulates our natural cycles and that can cause problems, as I've seen first hand.

Last, I've recently read about how microwaves change the composition of our food and create carcinogens out of previously healthy nutrients here.  I'd like to get away from using microwaves, and I've started a little bit by using the oven instead of the microwave when I can.  I hope to invest in a toaster oven soon so I can warm my food in that instead of using radiation.

With those and plenty of other examples I could spam this post with, I've begun to look into going natural.





Here's a few more tidbits I've found interesting as I've started looking into going natural:

This article shows 15 foods that are low in chemicals whether they're grown organically or conventionally.  This is good to know because organic is also known as expensive.  Onions, kiwi, cabbage and grapefruit are a few of the foods found on this list.

This article shows 12 foods that should be bought organically because of the pesticides and chemicals that be found in the conventionally grown versions. Meats, eggs, and dairy products are some of the foods found here.



I've never liked canned foods from the grocery, but I've been told that home-canning tastes a whole lot better, so I'm thinking about trying it.  Until then, I only buy fresh veggies.
